Internships

CEES develops annual summer environmental justice internship projects with community partners in the region and hosts them through the Bren Environmental Leadership Program (BEL). Selected UCSB undergraduate interns are paid, mentored by a graduate student, and receive supplemental support through the program.

2025

Environmental Injustice: Wildfire Impacts on Undocumented Central Coast Farmworkers. This project addresses the compounded challenges faced by undocumented farmworker communities in our region, and will particularly focus on the disproportionate health and environmental risks these residents experience due to increasingly frequent wildfires.

2024

Climate resilience planning in Santa Paula. CEES developed a partnership with the Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE) to engage two UCSB undergraduates, including one FUERTE scholar, in conducting literature reviews and interacting with community members to identify climate resilience measures to address flooding and extreme heat in Santa Paula.
